LENTEN DAILY READING 2023

WEDNESDAY - Romans 4:1-5, 13-17

Often, we think of Lent as a time to give something away. Whether that’s giving away a certain food, or activity. But Lent is also a time for receiving from God. During Lent, we receive faith. Faith can seem like a ‘churchy’ word, but it can be thought of as belief that God is who He says He is, and submission to Him and His ways.

In today’s reading, Paul is referencing Abraham from the book of Genesis. He is saying that Abraham received righteousness, or right standing with God, by faith. Abraham believed that God was who He said He was, and because of this belief, God made Him righteous.

Belief in Abraham’s time and in our time is not just an intellectual acknowledgement, but a decision to live life submitting to who God says He is. This life is one of forgiveness and love, and it is a free gift to all who believe.

The question for us today is, “Do we believe God is who He says He is? Do we believe God is calling us a journey towards new life?”
