GOOD FRIDAY - John 19:28-37

Good Friday. The day something terrible happened to the most innocent person who has ever lived. The day is good despite this horrible deed because of what it means for all of us. Jesus is crucified and killed in our place. He says ‘It is finished” because he completed the task given to Him by his Father.

Jesus died for our sins. He is presented as the pure spotless lamb in John’s gospel. That is why it tells us that his legs were not broken. Lambs that were used at Passover had to be pure and without defect (Exodus 12:46). They were killed on behalf of the people. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life and he died for you. He went through everything he did for you. Now, you are forgiven. As Paul says in Romans 8:31-32: “If God is for us, who can ever be against us? 32 Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?”

Good Friday is a day we remember Jesus’ sacrifice. We cannot forget what God did for us through him. Today is a day to give thanks to God.
